Comparison of microscan broth microdilution, synergy quad plate agar dilution, and disk diffusion screening methods for detection of high-level aminoglycoside resistance in enterococcus species.

چکیده
We compared the dried MicroScan microdilution panel, Synergy Quad plate agar dilution, and high-potency disk diffusion screening methods for the detection of high-level aminoglycoside resistance in 815 enterococcal bloodstream isolates. Agreement between the three methods was 99% when testing for high-level gentamicin resistance and 96% when testing for high-level streptomycin resistance.

Multilaboratory evaluation of screening methods for detection of high-level aminoglycoside resistance in enterococci. National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards Study Group on Enterococci.
Since the early 1970s, the synergistic activity of an aminoglycoside with a cell wall-active agent has been predicted by determining the ability of an enterococcus to grow in the presence of high levels of the aminoglycoside (usually > or = 2,000 micrograms/ml). However, a variety of media and concentrations of aminoglycosides has been used for this screening procedure. In the present study, we...
متن کاملComparison of agar dilution, disk diffusion, MicroScan, and Vitek antimicrobial susceptibility testing methods to broth microdilution for detection of fluoroquinolone-resistant isolates of the family Enterobacteriaceae.
Fluoroquinolone resistance appears to be increasing in many species of bacteria, particularly in those causing nosocomial infections. However, the accuracy of some antimicrobial susceptibility testing methods for detecting fluoroquinolone resistance remains uncertain. Therefore, we compared the accuracy of the results of agar dilution, disk diffusion, MicroScan Walk Away Neg Combo 15 convention...
متن کاملReliability of the E test for detection of ampicillin, vancomycin, and high-level aminoglycoside resistance in Enterococcus spp.
By comparison with agar dilution results, the E test was investigated for the ability to detect high-level aminoglycoside (gentamicin and streptomycin), ampicillin, and vancomycin resistance among strains representing six enterococcal species. For ampicillin and vancomycin, disk diffusion results also were obtained. No false high-level aminoglycoside resistance occurred, and no false gentamicin...
متن کاملDetection of High Level Aminoglycoside Resistance (HLAR) in Enterococci with the Phoenix Automated Microbiology System
cultures of 45 previously characterized enterococci (17 E. faecalis, 16 E. faecium and 12 E. spp) were included in the study. All isolates were tested in the Phoenix ™ Automated Microbiology System at an approximate inoculum concentration of 5x10 5 cfu per mL in a cation supplemented Mueller-Hinton broth. Phoenix ™ results were compared to the results with both broth and agar screening tests. T...
متن کاملComparison of agar dilution, broth microdilution, E-test, disk diffusion, and automated Vitek methods for testing susceptibilities of Enterococcus spp. to vancomycin.
An evaluation was undertaken to determine the optimal method for testing the susceptibilities of 100 clinical isolates and two reference strains of Enterococcus spp. to vancomycin in vitro. Six testing methods were studied by using the following media and incubation times: agar screen with the Synergy Quad Plate (Remel, Lenexa, Kans.), an in-house-prepared brain heart infusion (BHI) agar plate,...
